Weekend Holiday in Pulau Ubin

I would like to share our adventures and experiences, good and bad, when we make a journey into the last village of Singapore the place called Pulau Ubin. Ubin was located on the farthest east side of Singapore. The Ubin is an island that’s in between Singapore and Malaysia.

We had dinner first at Changi point, a really sizzling dinner which makes everyone sweat in their seat.

Seafood Fried Rice, BBQ Kangkong and BBQ Sotong. These foods are really great!
Here is the main course, BBQ Stingray ^_^. Very spicy, in a good way.

It's now time to travel to Ubin. To be able to get there, you need to ride a pump boat from Changi point. The ride cost 2.5SGD. In almost 15 minutes you will be there at Ubin Jetty.

Welcome to Pulau Ubin! I was the one on the left. Cliff was on the middle and Sonny was on the right.

Arriving at the jetty the first place you wanted to go was the information center. Too bad there was nobody at the center that time. There wasn't even maps on the counter. We are going camping so we need to register at the police station for them to know of our whereabouts in case something happened but the station was also close. The police were still in patrol so we waited a little longer.

The $2 sign was for the children bike. For adults you would find yourself renting up to 8 dollars. You will notice this sign on your way in.

We walked around first and tried to negotiate to those stalls that is offering a rented bike. Most of them are very expensive but we manage to get 4 dollar rent. That stall is the first one on the left side of the road when you exited the jetty. I would recommend this place. The family that runs the business was very friendly. They even let us deposit our stuff for free the next day we came by to replace some bikes before we go biking. Such a great help! Xie xie!

We got our bikes, just in time when the patrol car passes by. We go to the police station and register for the camping. After that off we go to Noordin Beach, the camping site we choose to camp.

Along the road we see how beautiful really Ubin was. You needed to be there to appreciate it. Too bad I didn't manage to get photos this time.  We first see the Pekan Quarry. This is like a hole with stagnant water in it, must like a lake. I still wonder how deep it was. After that road became more challenging as it goes up and down along the way. It was easy where going down as you don’t need to pedal, but when it was going up, you don’t have other choice but to walk unless you got a bikers legs that can ride up to a slope.

Travel from jetty to Noordin Beach took about 30 minutes. It was almost night time when we arrive there. We put up the tent just near to the entrance and near to the hut. There were already other people there when we arrived. Mostly are fisherman’s trying their luck using fishing poles. You could see fishing poles lined up about 5 meters in between from the entrance to up to the other side of the beach.

It was almost dark when we finished putting up the tent. One thing to make sure is you put your tent where the high tide cannot reach you else you would find yourself wet while sleeping. You can check where the reach of high tide was just by looking at the sand and seeing where the soil erosion has stopped.

Here is our tent, with two beautiful young ladies ^_^.

Night time has come, only then we find out we didn’t bring enough water to fill in for the night and some of us are already hungry due to biking for 30 minutes. Me and my friend Cliff decided to go back to jetty to buy some grocery.

After an hour we are back at the campsite, exhausted. It was hard to travel at night, especially at dark. Glad we did bring a flashlight. We managed to get a bread and drinks. At 8PM stores at the jetty were starting to close were lucky to find one store to be still open.

Night has came as everyone was tired so we get a good night sleep. Before that we manage to get some pictures.

Us playing James Bond, with Austin Power at the middle ^_^

The expressions on this photo was really funny. Sorry guys ^_^.

We got a bit creative and manage to get some strobe shots, here they are:

Sharon back-lighted

Midnight has came sleep still doesn't visit me. Me and Cliff had to go out to get fresh air and catch some sleep. There were fisherman still awake. I took a shot of their fishing rod.

The Fisherman’s Rod. The view in the background was Johor straight at nighttime. I love this shot.

Second day. Exactly 6AM we are already awake. We are planning to take some sunrise shot only to find out that we are on the wrong side of the island :(. Here are some of the shots I managed to salvage.

The Sunless Sunrise at Noordin Beach

Us waiting for the sunrise

The fisherman in action. Just in time when he throw his fishing pole.

This is not Hard Rock Cafe and that is not John Lenon ^_^.

Our pre nuptial picture. There are more but this is the one I mostly like.

Many shots have been made during that sunset. Mostly are our prenuptial pictures and sweet moments pictures of Sonny and Sharon.

It's time to go, we haven't eat breakfast yet. There only one place where you can eat breakfast if you didn't packed is in the Jetty. This would be a good morning exercise.

Off we go to the Jetty. We need to replace two bikes first as the first one has a problem in the break and the other was hard to use.

After replacing her back. Beverly was exited to try it on.
It was 8 in the morning, and the stores are still closed. We didn't find a place a eat because they will only open on 10 in the morning. Instead we had buy some bread to eat on the road.

Photographed while waiting for me to buy the bread. Cliff at the back make a chickboy pose and believe me he seldom do that.

Dogs sleeping at the street. This is a common sight at the Jetty.

Off we go, today our destination is Check Jawa, a popular destination in Ubin. Not so long after we left the Jetty they found a good place to take pictures. So here they are:

Beverly and I riding the for lovers bicycle

Sonny on his for commercial smile and Sharon pedaling from behind.

Cliff on his bike

Sharon returning the ring to Gollum ^_^
Along the way I found this cat lying on the ground. She even pose to have her picture taken. Nice kity kity kity.

Midway along the road we find this sign. The store was still closed that time but we find and old autie and she was helpful enough to sell us some drinks
Sharon posing for the coca cola drink
Beverly minding his own business talking to our friend who was about to go back to Philippines at that day.
Break time is over and we still got a long road ahead of us.

Still 1.8 kilometers more. The place where this post was has sooooo many mosquitoes. I got so many bites behind my arm and the other on their legs. Be sure to have a repellant or do not stop on this place.

Sonny showing sign of exhaustion. He was just faking it ^_^. Still long way to go!

This is the road ahead of us. Far ahead was Cliff.
Finally we arrived the the entrance. But bicycle is not allowed inside.
Sharon in from of Kiosk. At last the information kiosk was open. We are able to get map for Check Jawa. That man behind was familiar. I wonder where I saw him.

Me looking for directions.
Cliff looking at the well. I wonder if this is the same well where movie "The Ring" was filmed on.
Cemetery along the way. Creepy....

The wetlands are unique as several ecosystems can be observed in one area — sandy beach, rocky beach, seagrass lagoon, coral rubble, mangroves and coastal forest. - wiki

First stop was the Jejawi tower. It stands seven storey from the ground.

Beverly climbing up the tower.

Beverly enjoying the little shelter from the sun, it was so hot in the platform during that time.

Photos taken before going down.

Rest of the guys was left downstairs unable to climb up the tower.

You can only get around Check Jawa using the coastal boardwalk.

Sonny searching for a marine life.

We find a shelter along the way and grab the opportunity to have a rest. We are really tired at that time added to the very hot weather.

Picture taken beside the shelter.
It was already 11AM, the sun was shining so bright and the weather was really hot. We all agreed its time to go back to Jetty and to go back home. It was really tiring day and we still have to endure until we got back to the Jetty.

We saw Balai Quarry along the way back. It's water was color looks very refreshing if take a swim. But no its prohibited to swim in there.

You would see many of these along the way. The name of the tree where it was erected was written on it. Good reference if you want to know the names of the trees you see around.

Everyone was tired and exhausted, but it was really great experience. I would come back there again if I would have a chance.

Singapore MRT Scandal

One morning was very different as there has happened a very unusual event when I board the train. I don't know if it's just me or is my position on the train was lucky that I got this perspective.

The story is, seconds after I boarded the train going to Marina Bay, I noticed this nice scenery or rather awkward scenery of these two couples. The man is standing while the lady was sitting. They were in a position where the lady looks like doing something not good. I don't know if they know that this is not good in the eye of those who can see them, or rather they are used to that kind of position that's why they didn't even notice that they were on the train. Whatever it is I immediately took my iPhone and launch the camera application.

I was hesitant at first because I'm not used to take picture of people that I don't know. But this is different, and this kind of event happens only once and if I will not do it, I know that I will kick my self repeatedly after for not even trying. So I lunch the camera app, pretend that I was texting. I was a bit nervous although I know they cannot see me and nobody was looking. Then I touch the screen to grab the picture. Snap!... I was laughing at the result as it was really funny seeing this kind of thing.
